The culmination of two years of work, my section of the exhibition included 13 projects ranging from packaging to game design to children's books. Both utilitarian and decorative, these boards are completely functional and meant to be hung, image side out, when not in use. Each of the five boards has been designed for a particular type of food; meat, seafood, fruits and vegetables, and cheese. The shape and imagery also reflect the board’s intended use. For example, the seafood board features abstract fish patterns and a wide cutting surface while the bread board alludes to sun and wheat and is tall and narrow to accommodate a loaf of bread. Although a limited palette is used throughout, each board is assigned a dominant color which is present both on the board’s handle as well as its packaging. In addition to the five boards, BILDER includes a full year tea towel calendar and board butter. The calendar can be re-purposed as a kitchen towel once the year is up and the board butter, handcrafted from beeswax and mineral oil, is bothh all-natural and perfect for giving new life to dried out boards. The seals dive synchronized while the lions go head-to-head in the wrestling ring. After a peek at the various events, the story culminates with a nail-biting race and an unexpected winner.
